ECO Schools Green Flag Award

After achieving Bronze and Silver Awards, The Durham Federation has been assessed and found worthy to be awarded the coveted Green Flag status. This award highlights excellent practice within The Durham Federation.
Students in the ECO Group have
demonstrated that they have made excellent progress in the nine Eco Schools topics and have an impressive understanding of the importance of these in everyone’s life today and in future years.
The ECO and SNAG groups have worked tirelessly during the year on a range of initiatives using expertise both within The Durham Federation and from external agencies such as The Food for Life Partnership and OASES.
They have set up a battery recycling scheme, undertaken a carbon audit of our colleges’ energy use, created an energy usage policy, worked with The Food for Life Partnership Consultants and the Food Technology and Science Departments in our Colleges to grow food plants for use within Federation lessons. In addition, they have completed an Environmental Review of the Federation sites, produced a detailed Action Plan and made excellent progress towards all of their targets.
The award lasts for two years when The Durham Federation will be eligible to apply for the Green Flag Ambassadors Award.
